Everyone deserves a comfortable home, yet getting the balance right between historic preservation and meeting new “Energy Reduction & Environmental standard” (EPC) is not easy, especially when your home is in a Listed building.
Under the current UK Government requirements, Listed homes are not subject to the usual EPC Rating requirements… but that does not really help tenants with heating bills, damp or condensation problems in such homes.
The Friends Architectural Adviser, Mark Baker, pointed this out in his ‘Report on Energy Efficiency in Historic Homes. (2024)’, which included possible long-term solutions and an Action Plan to start in 2024.
The Friends believe there is a way forward, although it is likely to take a number a years to achieve.
