The main objective of the Towards Net Zero project is to develop a wider understanding of how to help achieve the UK’s net zero targets by sensitively retrofitting historic buildings.
As part of the Project, the Wirral Council will engage with the wider community to foster peoples’ awareness, interest and curiosity in Hamilton’s Square historic built environment. Their other aim is to deliver training and educational programmes, including formal training, to a wider audience to meet this national challenge.
The Towards Net Zero project will focus on Hamilton Square Conservation Area, ensuring that the Conservation Area contributes to the Council’s and Liverpool City Region’s targets to become carbon neutral.
The project will be developed in detail with the University of Liverpool as a key collaborator. For example, it is intended that students from the MA in Sustainable Heritage Management Course will work as volunteers for the project.
From the findings of this project, it is intended to create a Local Listed Building Consent Order for the Hamilton Square Conservation Area, and develop good practice guidance for residents and building owners & their agents.
